PEDIATRIC DENTIST

dr

It is truly a pleasure to know my patients personally and to see the joy they feel when they succeed in their dental visit. Preventative dentistry helps children attain beautiful smiles, but also helps patients set a lifelong habit to good dental health leading to healthier lives. My passion is the ability to make children’s and their parents’ lives better.

Education and Continuing Education

Majoring in biology and mathematics at The University of Akron and having attended The University of Maryland School of Dentistry, conducting research at Johns Hopkins Department of Pathology, I obtained my degree in dentistry from Case Western University School of Dental Medicine, Cleveland.

As a result of my love of country and desire to serve in the military, I was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force. As a Captain I headed the Preventative Dentistry team, and I was in charge of the Dental Officers’ Continuing Education program. I used my skills by volunteering in the Michigan communities as Chairman of Children’s Dental Health. This area is where I served our troops in the Air Force and also the United States Coast Guard as a Dental Officer. I was a consultant of many dental procedures relating to canines!

Seeing the need for specialized care led me to complete a pediatric dental residency at Children's Hospital of Buffalo, Buffalo, New York, where I became the first woman Chief Resident. While holding that position, I taught at SUNY – Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and later taught and practiced pediatric dentistry at Children's Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, for two years before my move to Scranton, where I saw a need for a pediatric dentist.

My patients’ families know I am dedicated to their welfare by attending seminars both in the USA and internationally. This education gives me the knowledge of the latest known and proven children's dental techniques, which I implement in my dental practice, keeping this pediatric dental practice on the cutting edge.

Being a Pediatric Dentist, I am affiliated with Regional Hospital of Scranton and the Regional Hospital of Scranton Surgical Centre. The following certifications ensure my patients’ safety: CPR and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

I hold memberships in the following organizations:

  • ADA
  • PDA
  • Scranton District Dental Society
  • American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
  • PA Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
  • NJ Academy of Pediatric Dentistry

Growing the Pediatric Dentistry Profession

Happiness is providing the BEST QUALITY Pediatric Dental Care to my patients. Young people thinking of becoming dentists or those seeking a profession in dentistry are given the opportunity to become acquainted with dentistry by “shadowing” me in the dental office, and asking questions about this field of study. A number of patients have continued in the dental field. It has been a privilege to serve these young people and their families.

My Life

Growing up in Ohio, I made my home in Scranton since 1991. Bringing me joy are my three grown children: lawyer, research scientist, and pediatric dentist. I enjoy reading, snowshoeing, and learning and cooking with healthy plant-based foods.

Dr. Jay Patel began his education in New Jersey at Rutgers University on an academic scholarship. From there, he understood his passion for the sciences and entered the healthcare field by pursuing dentistry. He enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh and was exposed to many specialties in the dental field, but none drew his interest as much as anesthesiology. He continued his post-graduate education at NYU Lutheran Medical Center and trained at a Level 1 trauma center in Brooklyn, NY. During this time, Dr. Patel completed over 1500 cases involving all levels of anesthesia and treated a broad spectrum of patients; including those with complex medical histories.

Since completing his anesthesia residency, Dr. Patel has become Board-Certified by the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology. He is dedicated to upholding the highest standard of care in his field.

Dr. Patel is now focused on serving the area he called home growing up. He works with some of the top dentists in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania and is concentrated on delivering top quality and safe sedation services. Patients are screened preemptively to ensure that any potential complications can be anticipated and avoided. Dr. Patel hopes to usher in a new era of dentistry where fear can be eliminated from dental visits. He works with the pediatric population, special needs population, and severe dental phobics, where his skill set has proven invaluable.
